Grim X-ray on Steven Tyler confirms the truth – and his condition is worse than first feared

The news goes from bad to worse regarding Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. Only yesterday did we report that Aerosmith were having to cancel a month’s worth of tour dates after their frontman sustained vocal cord damage.
Fresh reports today, however, claim that the damage is even worse than first thought. TMZ go as far as to claim that the legendary rock singer can barely speak at the moment.

Now, it should be stated before we go any further that Tyler’s recovery is assured, though how long it might take is anyone’s guess. In any case, there can be no doubting that the 75-year-old is experiencing plenty of trouble where his famous singing voice is concerned.

Earlier this week, Aerosmith provided an update to the masses via their Instagram page, confirming that shows in Toronto (penciled for September 12), Chicago (September 15), Detroit (September 18), Cleveland (September 21), Raleigh (September 24) and Washington D.C. (September 27) have all been pushed back until early 2024.

After said update, frontman Steven Tyler himself looked to further clarify the matter, explaining that doctors have instructed him not to sing at all for the next 30 days after he sustained substantial vocal cord damage.
“To all our fans,” Tyler’s statement began.

“I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days. I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding.

‘We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve.”

According to TMZ, Tyler blew out his vocal cords last weekend at a concert in Long Island – to the point that they bled – and thereafter flew to Boston to see his ENT doctor.

X-rays, apparently, showed that his cords were “mangled”.
Making the whole thing even more dramatic, it’s believed that Tyler’s injury occurred early on during Aerosmith’s set at the aforementioned Long Island gig. The singer powered through, however, and those gathered in attendance had no idea he was impaired.

Of course, he’s paying for that act of on-stage valiance now, with TMZ sources stating that he can’t even speak currently, and instead “squeaks” when he tries to talk.

That said, the same article says that Tyler is planning on coming back as quickly as he can, and has no plans to leave out risky high notes when he does.

Aerosmith’s Peace Out: The Farewell Tour was announced on May 1 and will consist of 40 dates that were expected to take place between September 2 (Philadelphia) and January 26 (Montreal).

The postponements, however, mean that the tour will instead finish at a later date. As per the latest reports, the Aerosmith will begin touring again on Monday, October 11.
