He’s been praised as a hero Lee Rigby’s son, Jack, won the Good Morning Britain Young Fundraiser of the Year at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards.
After coming up with a challenge to mark the tenth anniversary of his dad’s brutal murder, Jack’s initial fundraising plan was to raise just to £250 in his dad’s memory.
However after his plans were publicised across the nation, Jack quickly raised more than £50,000 and even celebrities got behind him and donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity which supports the children of soldiers who have died in the British Armed Forces.
On Thursday night as Jack was being given his award, a great surprise was gifted to him too, as host Carol Vorderman revealed additional donations from TSB, Pride of Britain, GoFundMe, and a massive £12,000 from Daily Mirror readers.
Ashley Banjo, who was also hosting, then ran into the crowd and revealed another £20,000 donation from Duncan Bannatyne which boosted the money raised by Jack to a monstrous £107,124, more than 10,000 for every year he’s been without his dad.
Jack, who was completely astonished by the donations, said: “Thank you so much.”
This is the moment @DuncanBannatyne donated £20,000 towards Jack Rigby's fundraiser for military bereavement charity, Scotty's Little Soldiers - the teen left the ceremony with over £100,000 in his fundraiser💜
