Megan Fox has a message for fans who criticized her for not donating to a GoFundMe she shared for a friend's father who's fighting cancer. After she shared the link to the fundraiser to help the family of her nail tech, fans and followers tore into her, sharing harsh words about her asking "poorer fans" to donate but not donating to the fund publicly herself. Megan certainly didn't hold back her feelings.
"Hey weirdos. Do any of you have the emotional intelligence to consider that maybe Brit doesn’t want her celebrity clients donating large sums of money to her because it creates a dynamic in her working relationships that makes her uncomfortable?" she wrote in a since-expired Instagram Story, via Us Weekly.
"So instead she asked me to post the GoFundMe so that many people could donate small amounts of money to help them reach their goal."
Megan didn’t stop there. She called her followers a 'bunch of psychos.'
"I just obliged her request," she added. "Anything she needs from me personally she will ask and I will do it privately. One thing you’re not going to accuse me of is being miserly or lacking generosity. So try again on another day (probably [tomorrow]!) with some different bulls--- you bunch of psychos."
Brittney Boyce set up the GoFundMe after her dad was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Megan shared the link to the campaign via Instagram Stories.
"If you guys are able to help please do," she captioned the post. Brittney's request was very heartfelt.
On the GoFundMe page, Brittney explained that her dad was "having some health issues last month" and was finally able to get in to see a doctor, and a CT scan was performed.
"Cancer was the last thing that we expected," she wrote, adding that her father, Michael, is only 64 years old and still working without planning "on retiring anytime soon."
Part of the reason Brittney set up the GoFundMe page is to help him financially because he’s missed work since his diagnosis. Additionally, one of his medications isn’t covered by his insurance and comes at a high cost of more than $1,000 per month. Fans wasted no time being outraged. The backlash against Megan’s ask was swift.
"The highest donation is only $300 and it’s not anonymous. Sis better contribute herself and lead the way," someone wrote on a Reddit post about the request.
"The wealthy should absolutely cover this. Sorry not sorry," someone else wrote. "Stop hoarding money and asking your much poorer fans to help." They ripped Megan apart for not sharing her own funds.
As Page Six pointed out, fans also tweeted their outrage. "Megan Fox sharing a GoFundMe for 30k has got to be a joke. as if she isn’t rich as f--- and could help their friend immediately lol."
"Millionaire Megan Fox just posted a GoFundMe on her Instagram story for her friend’s dad’s 30 grand cancer medical bills and I am absolutely speechless," one person tweeted.
For what it’s worth, thanks to Megan’s sharing of the page, the GoFundMe account has raised more than $11,000 and upped its initial goal from $30,000 to $60,000.
